The schooner hotel

History

The schooner hotel was built in the 17th century and was originally used as a coaching inn. Over the last 400 years it has been enjoyed as an overnight rest place for many tourists and travelers, including king George the 3rd. It is located in the village of Alnmouth on the coast of Northumberland which used to be the trading port for the area.



Hauntings

There have been over 3000 reported sightings of ghosts at the hotel and reports of ghostly experiences date back many years, including seeing the ghosts of children and soldiers as well as the sounds of crying.


Although no official records remain of actual tragic events which could be responsible for the creation of ghosts, tales include, suicides, murders, baby's being thrown into fires and massacres. The hotel is reported to have more than 60 ghosts and has been listed by The Poltergeist Society twice as being the most haunted hotel in Britain.
