ASTORIA- TONGUE POINT JOB CORPS

TPJCC was originaly a Naval Base, it was built on a man made island on the Columbia River as a submarine and destroyer base. Construction was past in 1919, 1921 dredging began and construction completion was finished in1924 with a break water and 4 woden finger piers that extended into the Cathlamet Bay. However, the decreased military appropriation following WW1, the base was never used. The actual ground breaking for the Naval Air Station began in 1939. Construction of buildings finally got underway in 1943 and was to be a base for amphibious seaplane patrols. PBY Catalinas arrived in 1943 and began coastal patrols.THis proved difficult due to the logs and other flaoting debris which made takeoff and landing conditions hazardous. It is said that you can feel the presence of men walking the by what is now the seaman ship trade area. In 1944 the PBY Catalinas at Tongue Point were replaced by larger & more capable PBM Mariners. It is said that what is now Res. 1 the basement (old orintation room) had caught on fire this was the officer quarters and the men didn't get out you can still see a man on fire through the windows. By 1962, the Tongue Point Naval Air Station was transferred to the General Services Administration as excess property. In 1981, the federal government sold much of the land (including 2 of the 3 hangars) to the State of Oregon. Part of the facilities are used as the Tongue Point Job Corps Center. The original occupants of TPJCC were shipped from the eastcoast in 1960 with the options of jail or a trade, it was also

a "Male" only center. During this time there were many acts of violence but the one killing that I know of was under the fire exit of res. 2 where two Boys got into a fight and one of them was stabbed to death. His spirt has been seen and felt. 1970 was when women were allowed to attend TPJCC rummors of rape and murder came at this time I don't know the details but have heard many ppl talk of seeing woman. From 1970 - 1997 when I attended school there I was told of many stories many I can't remember there are only two stories of which I do remember 2 females were attending JC when they took the buss to Seaside for the weekend they decided to camp on the beach while on the beach they were murdered one body was found on the hwy to Tongue Point the other was found in the river by one of the piers. The last death that I remember hearing of on this center took place in 1996 or 97? On a weekend a female student decided to drink and consumed enough to get alcohol poisoning. She made it to her room one of her roommates noticed her and stuffed her under the mattress of her bunk so the R.A's wouldn't find her there she suffocated either by the weight of the matress or exfixiation or a combination of both. The body was recovered hours later. There has been sightings of this spirit too. This is all the knowledge I have of this center so far I will continue to look and find out more.

I was in Job corps approximately 1989 I stayed in a two-man room my roommate was gone for the weekend my room was right next to the exit door when you looked out my window you could see the metal escape stairs that door could never be open because an alarm would go off. One night while I was sleeping I was awakened by who I thought was the person that I forget what they call them the den mother or whatever was standing over me my door was never opened she never said anything and when she walked away my door was never opened and she disappeared I went back to sleep and I was awakened by it sounded to me as though a horse with galloping in the hallway sounded like his hooks were walking down the hallway something told me to look outside I looked out my window and I looked on the staircase which nobody should be on the door was never open because the exit door would have alarmed but there was a black figure on the staircase no feet it was like floating that's when I ran out of my room ran down the hallway said I was not going back to my room I called my mother and had her get me a plane ticket and get me out of there and I haven't been back since

I went to that center in 1969 and at that time it was an all girl job corps... the only ghost on that time was a girl drowned by the pier, the one between the hanger and the main building.. that girl drowned there... it was told that the girls could see her ghost by the first dorm on the left side as u come down the road when u past the front gate.. i stayed there for about a year after that.

I was best friends with Erin from 12 to 15 then we had a teenage girl argument and ended up at different high schools. With the age of technology I wanted to see where her life went and found this. This is actually the only thing I found. Very sad😔

I was there when Erin died she just finished her course and was going home few days before her dealth is was her graduation party I was at it at one point we went shakes pizza ate got alot things drink we all got wrote up for drinking and told sleep it off Erin and few got bottle on to campus kept drinking and she passed out so all us left we could hang in girls dorm rooms if was right phase then next day was told she never woke up.

Erin was my cousin. I was about 7 when she died, so I wasn't really given the full story on how it happened aside from she drank too much. So thanks internet strangers for shedding light. I thought she was so cool and wanted a leather jacket just like hers.

I've never been to the TPJCC, so can't say if the place is haunted or not. I don't think Erin would be the haunting type, anyway.

I do feel her protection from time to time, especially before our grandparents passed. There's some situations I shouldn't have walked away from, and all I could think was "wow, that was wild. Thanks cousin."

I too, was there when Erin died.It was a sad day for everyone. They held a "memorial" for her and kids/staff were able to express themselves and say "good-bye" to her. I was in the printing shop with her but I did not know her well. She loved photography and developing the film/photos. I remember RC as well...ever wonder what happened to all your people there? I do..Where are they now?
I never experienced the ghosts there or heard anything strange. I didn't even know there were stories about it either until now.
I didn't really get to explore the entire base and when the Russian ship was "stuck" there for a bit I wasn't able to sneak on it either, even though many students did. Shannon Casey was my best friend there, and he "protected" me, or just kept me away from all that. He said it wasn't for me. I think now, it would have been cool to explore there a lot more than I did.

I went to tpjcc August 1986 to September 1987 we went up on the top of the point that is where it's haunted I never saw any hauntings down on center but when we went we have to the point and it started getting dark it was freaky we never went up there again and they told us we were not supposed to go up there in the first place I can see why there's all kinds of military stuff up there too it's pretty cool. I never heard about anybody being hurt or dying there I was in the early 80s so basically all they ever talked about was the drinking and the drug problem we still going to Astoria and get totally drunk and stay in the hotel I think it was called Astoria Hotel it was a dump but it was fun I can't tell you how many times I walk those railroad tracks just to get past the front gate cuz I knew I was over intoxicated it was only one time I was so drunk that I threw up my garbage can and I ended up getting in trouble by the residential aide cuz she saw that I was drunk she wrote me up I have to say go in there with the best time of my life

I was one of the carpenters who got hired on with golden harvest films to build sets for teenage mutant ninja turtles 3. I was there, when Erin died, her and long haired Rob had broken up, he went on with his life, she couldn't deal with it. One night after a way to many, her roommates snuck her back on base and into her res, which wasn't really hard to do, and placed her in bed in a way that made her just visible during a room check, but safe from being discovered she was drunk. No one knew that she had slipped further between the bed and the mattress and suffocated, and died in the night while everyone thought she was asleep. The next day as everyone awoke to the news, res 3 was blasting stairway to heaven the entire day! As for the other noises, if you heard noises in the basement of res 1 and res 2, which were connected, it was because I copied the master key, and we all took turns using the rooms with couches with girls, at night when the r.a. wouldn't check there because it was supposed to be locked.
Tongue point job corps was not haunted, there were just so many kids with nothing to do but have sex. there were no murders up to that date,

I went there from 1997-99
It was an adventure. I was hanging out with girls that were going through issues with their boyfriends summer single but yet they were cool I'll never forget my roommates I remember moving from rest one to rest too and from rest to 2-1 I remember cleaning the damn hallways and the the showers and bathroom every morning at 6. It was alright but they were so many dramas every day we had your popular girls your gangster girls your slut girls LOL. As for me I I meant so many friends come and go either they got into a fight or they were drug test t that's the only way they were either kicked out because of that. I remember doing printing business and someone painting and Electric, and you going to those little classes the academic which I did not like cuz it was so unnecessary because I've already got my diploma didn't know why I had to take your but yeah all in all it was okay I remember having strange teachers so she's a lady this strange lady that's always asking about where I'm from LOL but anyways being over there at Job corpse in Astoria Oregon was a an adventure I will never forget working in the cafeteria making that money saving it up and trying to plan a getaway on the weekends with a friend there were people also partying it up in the campus and no download I remember always trying to leave my room because of my damn roommates always wanted to be alone and have their boyfriend and girl time in the bedroom where I was sharing with them I hated to leave because I wanted to get my Z's in but these girls they just wanted to get it on with their little boy friends I suppose I will never forget my memories in Job Corp Astoria Oregon I will never forget the downtown area or so many people look at us students and judge us by the way we look thinking there were some kind of juvenile delinquents I meant a lot of weird strange people in Astoria Oregon even on campus LMFAO well that's my story I hope you guys enjoy I'm just glad that I left that place but I did have some good times there anyways that's that story peace out 2017

Yes the death of the girl is a true one no security did not let her go down they snuck her past security and the friends hit her from security because they did not want her to get in trouble or guess what she died because of this as for Nash what you posted I agree with you I don't believe any of these things are true I've read no stabbings we've had one attempted stabbing while I work here I am a security officer but we have no no no no no no rapes no known murders so I would like to know where they get their sources from

We started painting res 3 in early 2014
This one day something happened that pissed off my instructor dewey I don't really remember what it was but he kept us up at the dorm after trade to finish what we were doing spraying texture on the walls it got to dark to do anything up there and our work lamp was broken so we waited for dewey to show up saying we could go
We were cleaning the hopper when I see Dan standing off to the side staring down the hallway
He was shaking pretty bad so I went to go check on him he didn't hear me or responded to my shove
I looked down the hall what he was staring at
It chilled me to the bone there was a siloette of something standing in front of the only light at the time the exit sign in the other room down the hallway it was Smokey in appearance not heavily Smokey you can see through it but it was a solid shape it took the fairly common sound of the plumbing to break are stare and when we looked back it was gone Dan looked at me and said you saw that girl right
All I can say was I saw something
It was and is to this day the most frightening experience of my life after that I stopped thumping on the walls to mess with my friends the rest of my time up there

I went there from 95 to 97 and I lived in res 2 then res 1. The only ghosts I saw were in the men's bathroom on the top floor of res 2. Several times I would be headed to the bathroom after hours and Id see a guy dressed like it was the 70s. After a few times I asked people who'd been there a while and they said that it was,a ghost a lot of people saw him at night. Also I was doing construction on res 3s basement which used to be some kind of lounge or rec area from when it was a military base. And that place creeped everyone that ever went into it. It was partially flooded and would randomly unlock and relock itself stranding people inside.

Hello the difference between me and the rest of these comments is as of 10/06/16 I'm still at the center, and well. I've never felt any spirits although people claim res 3 is haunted for any older students Res 3 is the building with the point behind it. It also used to be where the security officers used to live. Although my girlfriend claims her hall in res 1 is haunted idk, the old kitchen/caffeteria between res 1 and 2 is kinda creepy that's just because it's closed. But when it says the guy was stabbed under "the fire exit of res 2" okay so this makes me doubt the validity this article even more, Res 2 is bigger than you may think, every hall has a fire exit so there's 10 halls I can think of off the top of my head. Lol almost forgot the next "death" so her friend "stuffed" her under the mattress of her bunk bed, well it would be obvious someone was under it since. Well there'd be a person size lump. But let's forget that so she died from being either suffocated by the weight of the mattress. Or.....she was suffocated by...suffocation. That's what asphyxiation is.

I was dating Erin during the time of her death at TPJCC. She was such a beautiful, warm and happy person. The night of her death we went to seperate parties. The next morning I returned to center and learned of her death. I didn't date anyone for about five years afterward. I regret not being with her and regret even more being too embarrassed to face her parents at her funeral in Tacoma, WA. I could see Erin having a tough time moving on to the 'afterlife'. She was an angel while amougst the living. In death, I would imagine if she is making her presence known it's to remind students of their mortality and not to frighten them. I think of her often and miss her very much.

I am Beki Lott, I was known as Thump-Her when i was there.

Not sure how to spell her last name, i went to TP in 91/92, my first room mate was erin chaney in rez 2, it was a 3 person room but it was just her and i. thenwe got another room mate and erin moved to rez 1 with some friends,and the other girl moved out too, I was woke up by a girl named RC sitting on my bed in the middle of the night, i had the room to myself, at the time and RC woke me up to let me know that erin had died in rez 1, this is the story i got, erin had had some work done on her teeth during the day and was on percocet for her teeth, then went out that night with some friends to town and drank a bottle of 151 rum and had passed out in a room in rez 1 fell back on the bed and died, that was it, it was that quick, they couldn't do anything for her.

I also at one time during my stay was in the basement of rez 1 with a friend Izzy, i fell asleep with my head on his leg, and he had fallen asleep with his head on my leg, we were laying twords each other on our side, what woke me up was someone grabbed my shoulder, the one that was against Izzy leg, not only would they have woken him up also, because they would have had to touch his leg also, he did not wake up till i sat up real quick. and there was no one there.

Another time there were 4 of us including me and we went camping in one of the old armey quonset hut bunkers behind rez 3 and one of the guys woke up and went to the end of the bunker to piss in the trench inside the bunker and someone walked up beside him, my friend went to pat him on the arm and his hand went right thru the guy. needless to say he woke us all up.

I had heard ghost stories when i was there, about the medical building under job corps, and all the tunnels and offices and bunkers and stuff under job corps, the ones behind rez 3 were off limits, they are dug into the side of the hill have really tall metal doors and the buildings are concrete and in the shape of a quonset hut. if you are not looking for them you might never find them. They have trees and stuff growing on top of them.

I can't tell you how many places we broke into while i was there. I was also dating a guy at the time who set the flag on fire one night and ran it up the pole. He got sent home.

There were also a few ppl there that had the choice of going to jail or job corps, ya know the one they piced.

i was there while they were building the sets for teenage mutant ninja turtles, had a few friends working on it from the center. of cource had to break the rules and go look at the airplane hangers to see what we could see, all we saw were the blue prints for the scenes.the hangers were off limits.

i was told that the path past rez 3 was off limits because someone climbed the tree on the cliff to get a birds nest down and fell and died, he not just fell out of the tree, but he fell out of the tree and clear past the ground the tree was on right to the beach below the cliff.

If you are wanting people to see legitimacy in what you are documenting on here I would advise you to have someone proof your writing. It is chalked full of misspelled words and grammatical errors. I think once you edit this post you will catch the eye of legitimate researchers out there and pique their interest in what you have to share.

I went to tongue point in 1995 to 1996. I stayed in res 2. Also know as the ghetto. I remember hearing rumors of ghosts but never seeing them. I did once sneak into the basement of res 1 and getting the chills. I never heard of anyone dieing in 1996. That whole place kinda gave me the creeps but it was probably the best time of my life.

Has anyone else experienced the Gilligan Nurse of Res. 1 Gilligan Hall? I did not see any girl with a rolling ball in Res. 3 "the castle" but was awakened by a baby crying one night. I lived on the third-floor boy's hall because I was in a marriage room at that time.

One night I heard a little girl laughing down the hallway of res three on the third floor and after the laughing ended you could hear a ball bouncing then they moved me to res2 and I thought at first it was the ra's doing there nightly checks so I could hear walking then look out my window you could see all the ra's in the office heard the walking again so I laid down in bed and look my door opened no one was there and another night I saw a black shadow in the corner of my room moving to corner to corner but before I saw that had a dream that the dark shadow was attacking me and my roommates then that's when I woke up saw the shadow then when me my roommates woke up we always told each other that we had weird or scary dreams and we all had the same dream it was so scary then one time I was at the point the road up the street from the old military houses me and friend were smoking and we saw someone walking down the street we called out to them and they dissipated we ran for are lives when we saw that

Talking to the current Job Corps student, Res 3 was closed down due to the fact that there were not enough people and the floors were coming up. However, that being said, people talk about strange things in Res 3. Personally, it gave me the creeps, especially the basement, if you go down there at night, you can hear people talking behind the painting. Also you feel like somone might push you down the stairs. Be careful about Res 3, it can be very creepy and very dangerous.

If you go down to the basement before the laundry room. There is a hallway to the left. Shut the light off and walk down it try to go all the way. I bet you can't if you can stand there for a few min. You will feel a breeze and BOOM it will feel like someone is touching you.

I heard many stories of this place being haunted. Me and my roomates and input buddies are more curious about the history of this site since it was at once a naval base. I know there are phenomenoms (I suck at spelling) here that lurk around the area, but my curiosity has my eyes set on Res 3 (Under-going constuction at the moment). I have always been fascinated by the paranormal and unexplainable. I do believe there is more to this place than the staff and RA's would like to share.

In 1990, a girl.came back drunk. Instead of remaining at security, they let her go back to her room. 2 hrs later she was found dead of asphyxiation

Also, in 91-92, rumors were around of a Hispanic male from.job corps dying in a fight in town and his body was thrown in the river and went to the ocean. Rumor also included the victim was retaliated from others for alleged sexual assault to females at job corps, and the people took it in their hands when police refused to investigate or arrest the victim.

During my time at Job Corps, I had heard many ghost stories, some about the cages in the res 2 basement, others about the fire where most of the officers had died, talks about the nurses wing, tales about women who were raped and murdered while in attendance at Tongue Point. There was nothing substantial and I dismissed them all with the same amount of certainty I had dismissed my own strange experiences, the one time this wasn't the case, was the first night I moved into the hall above the res 2 basement. I spent my time that day, getting to know my new roommates and hanging the pictures I had just picked up from Fred Meyers on my cork board. Top bunk, 4 girls including me, all of them, girls I had met on previous occasions, and while not friends, we were on good terms. That night, I had trouble sleeping, I kept hearing things, footsteps, faint scratching, and the occasional loud thump. All of which, I explained away. At one point, I rolled towards the window, and thought I saw something outside of it, but when I blinked, it was gone. Assuming I was just sleep deprived, I ignored it, and finally fell asleep. When I awoke the next morning, I found that some of my pictures had been torn down, and that every picture that I was in, had my eyes poked out.. by what appeared to be tack marks. I confronted my roommates, and when no one came forward, I brought it to the R.A.s. However, as I am a light sleeper and the cork board was directly above my pillow, I should have noticed someone defacing my pictures. That morning, one of my roommates told me a story, something that would sound silly but was something she firmly believed. She claimed that the night before, the night I had seen something, she had heard scratching at the window, and saw someone's face pressed against the glass. When examining the outside of the building, there really was no way to explain it. The tree beneath our window, was set too far away, and the window was too high to be reached without a ladder. Whatever it was we thought we saw, and whatever really happened to my photos, I'll never know. But Tongue Point had more then enough oddities, for me to become a believer in the unexplained.

Hi, I attended TPJCC in 1999, and was unaware of the stories at the time that my first incident occurred.
I got to TPJCC late in the evening because our bus was delayed, and as such, I was placed with three other guys in a temporary room for the night.
My temporary roommates had all fallen asleep, but I was struggling with insomnia. My bed was under the window, and that window allowed a large amount of light into the room. I had been facing the wall and decided to roll over, now facing into the room. From out of the shadow near the entrance to the restroom, I saw what I can only accurately describe as a 3 dimensional shadow, it had depth and height and width, but was by no means "solid". It looked for all the world like the upper torso of a person pulling itself towards me, but without definition...sorta like smoke.
I realize that I probably should have been worried or frightened, and every other time something supranormal has happened to me, I've had that reaction. This time, I just rolled over and promptly fell asleep.
It wasn't until 2003 or thereabouts that I heard about the girl dying of alcohol poisoning, I'd overheard what I later found out was one of her ex-roommates talking about TPJCC during a lunchbreak at work.
According to her, the room I occupied had been theirs.
The other occurrence happened after I'd been transferred to res. 1. I had the top bunk and, as in the previous story, all my roommates were asleep and I was struggling with insomnia. I was lying on my back when it felt like somebody...leaned on the corner of my mattress. Like if the guy in the bunk under me had reached up and pulled the corner down. The mattress definitely moved, and everybody else was definitely asleep.
That's it. Besides the stall doors in res 1 opening and closing when you were trying to take a pee in the middle of the night.
